The APSAT 2025 is the 21st ASSI’s annual international conference series on the satellite communication aspect, and it is a remarkable annual event in Indonesia, and it is being acknowledged, recognized, and endorsed by international telecommunication societies, professionals, and government institutions. The APSAT 2025 has become the paramount satellite technology conference event of the year in Indonesia, with sharing knowledge from many leaders, entrepreneurs, executives, engineers, end-users, the academic community, and enthusiasts together in one place. For more than 20 years, APSAT has played a critical role in determining how satellites will shape the future of telecommunication in Indonesia and the Asia Pacific region. The conference welcomes the community of aerospace professionals from every market and field of study in the Asia Pacific region.

ASSI (Asosiasi Satelit Indonesia) or (The Indonesian Satellite Association) is an inclusive non-profit organization, based in Bandung, established in 1998, has the aim to promote and encourage the satellite industry, including the satellite community development in Indonesia, through national-international multi discipline collaboration, and to address wide range satellite related issues. Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago, is a nation defined by its geographic complexity. Spanning over 17,000 islands across three time zones, the country faces a unique challenge: delivering equitable connectivity to its population of 270 million. While urban centers like major cities in Java Island thrive with advanced digital infrastructure, vast rural and maritime regions remain underserved, hindered by the limitations of terrestrial networks. This digital divide stifles economic growth, limits access to critical services like education and healthcare, and hampers disaster response in a region prone to seismic and climatic disruptions.

Satellite technology has emerged as a transformative solution, offering a viable path to bridge these gaps and accelerate Indonesia’s digital transformation. With ambitions outlined in its Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision—a roadmap to become a global economic leader—the nation recognizes satellite technology as a cornerstone of its connectivity strategy. APSAT 2025 aims to serve as a platform for value creation by bringing together stakeholders to explore solutions that leverage satellite technology to bridge these gaps.

Despite progress, Indonesia’s satellite industry faces multifaceted challenges. Regulatory frameworks remain fragmented, requiring alignment between domestic policies and international standards to foster innovation while safeguarding national interests. Financing satellite projects demands significant upfront investment, with high costs for deployment, maintenance, and ground infrastructure posing barriers for both public and private stakeholders. Sustainability concerns add another layer of complexity: the global space industry grapples with space debris, energy consumption, and the environmental footprint of rocket launches. Meanwhile, rapid technological advancements—from low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations to AI driven data analytics—are reshaping the sector, demanding agile adaptation to stay competitive. These challenges underscore the need for a collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach to build a resilient and uture-proof satellite ecosystem.

Themed “Innovating Satellite Ecosystems: Unlocking Value through Collaboration and Technological Advancements,” this international conference addresses these imperatives by uniting global experts, policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators. APSAT 2025 will have a 2-day conference to address satellite technology, business and new ideas issues. On the 1st day, the conference will focus on satellite businesses and markets, which start with an executive panel discussion from regional satellite business players focusing on potential markets in the Asia Pacific region, followed by Indonesia satellite business key players discussion. After looking from an executive perspective, in the afternoon, the discussion shifted to the innovation in satellite and launcher technology, especially in the wake of space sustainability concerns. At the end of the day, to complete the ecosystem, the discussion will then move to the improvement and innovation from Ground Segment Equipment and Network manufacturers as well as System Integrator with the rising inquiry for a panacea for multiple satellite technologies.

On the 2nd day, the discussion will be started with a focus on a special topic on service innovation in mobility particularly on the potential, challenges, and market requirements in Indonesia. In the following session, satellite application providers will explore strategies to enhance collaboration, navigate a crowded ecosystem, and address key challenges, maximizing benefit of satellite technology advancement. The third session will explore the emerging communities’ untapped potential, which may be unlocked by satellite technology through discussion with the delegations from the community. At the last session of APSAT 2025, we continue the initiatives called Indonesia Aerospace HAKATHON 2025 with the objective of looking into innovative solutions that can address current and future problems related to satellite business in technology, business and social aspects with a theme “Empowering Indonesia’s Future with Space-Driven Innovation for Prosperity and Sustainability”.
